The Design Indaba Festival is a multi-city conference and urban festival held annually in South Africa. ‘Indaba’ is a South African word (both Zulu and Xhosa) that directly translates to conference or discussion. I wanted to highlight this globally acclaimed festival as it is considered a Luxe Event that showcases the best in design and creativity.
Design Indaba Festival 208 will take place between the 21st – 24th of February at the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town.
For the conference, a well-curated list of speakers who are pioneers from industries both inside and outside of the design world will be headlining. These speakers will vary from architects, to designers and even film makers.
It kills me that I will not be able to attend the packed days and nights that intersect all forms of African creativity; we’re talking music performances, art installations, pop-up restaurants and fashion exhibitions.
There will be a full blown filmfest which will be a curated selection of films making their African debut.
What I would really be looking forward to is the exhibitions from the Indaba Emerging Creatives Class of 2018. Design Indaba supports the next generation of creative talents and providing young designers a platform to support local talent. A list of 60 top rising stars in the creative industries showcase their work in an exhibition that’s on for the duration of the Conference and open to the public over that week. We are very proud to note that one of Luxe Edit’s favourite athleisure brand, ShweShweKini has been listed!
“Africa is a source of vibrant design inspiration and ingenious contextual solutions to vexing challenges.”
From performance arts, to exhibitions, to curated shops to meet and greets, I know The Indaba Design Festival will be nothing short of breath-taking. I wish I was in attendance, don’t you?
